The following list presents definitions used to describe key project concepts:
Project: A file that keeps a structural set of labels.
Project Component: A label or project sub-item.
Project Sub Item: An element, in the Folder format, which can contain other project components.
Label: A separate printable item which is represented in a project. The label can consist of one or more panels, which are meant to define the distinct areas of a label. For instance, the CD Jewel Case Booklet labels have a total of four panels: Outside Front, Outside Back, Inside Front, and Inside Back.
Version, Design: An instance of the label that you are editing. Each label contains at least one version. You can add versions to each label, as necessary.
Layer: The layer function allows you to edit each part of the label separately. For example, the text box where you type the name of your album is one separate layer; the picture you select is another separate layer. This makes it easy for you to make the exact changes that you wish to make.
Element, Object: The part of the design that is edited as a single item. For example, the title text is a single element. You can use the mouse to edit each element.
Bar Code: This allows you to include a standard UPC product code as part of your label, and is meant for commercial projects. Please note: There are many standards for bar codes. It is strongly recommended that anyone planning on using bar codes research them thoroughly before actually utilizing them. Due to the scope of the subject of bar codes, Fellowes/NEATO cannot assist you in doing the background research on bar codes or obtaining the general information needed to properly use them.
Text: A text, which is included as a part of the overall design. Texts are entered and edited using the text box function and the keyboard; they can contain information such as the title, name of artist, or list of songs.
Image: A picture or other graphic image, which is included in the overall design. Image files in various file formats, such as JPEG or GIF, can easily be inserted or imported. Once the image has been loaded, it can be edited to allow for different types of special effects.
Shape: A simple geometric form such as a line, rectangle or circle.
Spline: A curved geometric shape which you can easily draw by using the Segment Tool. This is not to be confused with a "Spine" which is a panel on some labels, such as the Jewel Case Tray Liner labels.
Blend: A special effect that is created by blending one object with another. The original shape and color of the objects can be changed to allow for special effects.
Template: The template defines the initial state of the label, or the entire project. Each label is created according to a template. The Label Template contains the label, along with the label's visible areas and default contents. Each label template is used for a certain type of media and/or media packaging.
